As every year in such cases, the Lesvos Branch of the Hellenic Rescue Team, set up First Aid stations at 3 different points of the pilgrimage route to the Holy Pilgrimage for the church of Archangel Michael in Mantamados. This is to ensure the safe hiking of the pilgrims on the eve of the celebration at the Holy Temple in Mantamados on April 15. A total of 10 certified volunteer rescuers with complete rescue equipment and vehicles, manned the above stations, and successfully faced all the minor problems that arose due to hiking, standing and fatigue of the faithful during these 2 days.
This year, for the first time in the framework of the collective effort of the cooperation of Voluntary Organizations of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection North Aegean Region, HRT Lesvos operation was under its instructions and in collaboration with groups belonging to it.
During this activity we tested the Emergency Aid and Coordination Vehicle, an initiative of the Holy Diocese of Mytilene, the Hellenic Rescue Team Lesvos Branch under the coordination of the Civil Protection Directorate of the North Aegean Region and the support of the Mytilene Paratroopers.
We thank all those involved and the pilgrims for their cooperation.
