A call was received by the Sea Rescue Department of the Hellenic Rescue Team – Lesvos Branch from the Central Port Authority of Mytilene, on Monday 28/9 at 21:20,for a search and rescue operation of 3 missing persons in the greater area of Nea Kydonia, Lesvos.
Immediately a 3-member rescue crew left for the spot, as the fishing boat had been located, due to the severe bad weather that prevailed in the area on Monday night and while returning to Skala Nea Kydonia had been capsized.
The boat was carrying two women and a man, with the first two being trapped under the inverted boat and alive, while the man had already been rescued by the Coastguard.
In collaboration with the CoastGuard and those involved at the scene, team members worked together to free and rescue the two women. Afterwards the rescue boat returned to Mytilene.
Congratulations to all involved who under the guidance of the Mytilene Central Port Authority of Mytilene – Coastguard & Frontex management and private citizens – who with their assistance, excellent cooperation and professionalism managed to locate and rescue the three persons missing.
