On Saturday and Sunday, June 18 19, 2022, The two-day Big City Festival of Events that took place in Tsamakia and the Lower Castle (Kato Kastro) of Mytilene was successfully completed.
The aim of the Big City Festival was through the pan-European communication campaign “Europe in my region 2022 (EUinMyRegion)” to encourage citizens to discover and learn more about the projects co-financed by the European Union in their region.
Highlighting the Castle of Mytilene which is the most important monument of our city and the surrounding area that connects the modern center with the old city, as a station and reference point for the transition to the new era, through the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy and urban mobility actions. The goal is to become a symbol of our Region and beyond.
Organizers of this effort are the Special Management Service and the North Aegean Region, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Lesvos, the Municipality of Mytilene, the Lesvos Runners, the Cycling Association of Lesvos – Lesvos MTB, the MUSIC SCHOOL of Mytilene, the Europe Direct North Aegean, the Mytilene’s Photography Company ‘‘Polytropon”.
The Hellenic Rescue Team of Lesvos Branch covered the Festival throughout with a total of 18 certified volunteer rescuers and rescue and first aid equipment.
At all points of action there were a total of three fixed first aid stations and an intermediate pedestrian rescue unit.

Sunday 19 June, 18.00 – 20.00 Cycling races with the “Lesvos Cycling Association”, for children from 6-16 years old 18.30 – 20.00 Interactive Castle game with Polytropon “Reconstructing the Castle of Mytilene” for children 6-12 years 21.00 – 22.30 Concert by Adriana Babali
