HRT Lesvos attended exercise Dadanos 2022

On Thursday, October 13 and Friday, October 14, the Chios Regional Unit carried out a large-scale exercise with the code name “DADANOS – CHIOS 2022″//”Field, Live Exercises // EQ // DADANOS – CHIOS 2022”.

This operational mission was under the supervision of the Directorate of Civil Protection of the North Aegean Region.

The Greek Rescue Team Lesvos Branch actively participated as a member of the mission, following a call made by the Director Mr. Malliaros Dimitrios. 3 rescue volunteer members of our team went and participated in the simulation exercise aimed at awakening, providing knowledge, increasing operational readiness as well as testing, examining and evaluating Action Plans – Memoranda, human resources, mechanical means and equipment as well as to strengthen the cooperation between all the agencies/services involved.

The scenario of the exercise initially related to the occurrence of a 6.9-magnitude on the Richter scale earthquake on the island of Chios. The relevant plans of each service were immediately activated, with the employees of the Municipality and the Regional Unit as well as the shopkeepers of the island gathering in Vounaki Square.

Afterwards, the exercise included a student setting free in the 3rd – 8th Primary School and the 2nd High School, where the branch of Lesvos participated in the extrication and provision of first aid to the injured in cooperation with the members of the Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Lesvos island.The exercise also included a fire event in Ag. Fotia where the Chios readiness base of the Hellenic Rescue Team freed the citizens.

Our members along with other participants remained trapped on the beach and experienced the incident from the side of the victims gaining a comprehensive picture of the actions and psychology in such extraordinary events.
