September 8, Tuesday evening, after contacting the Directorate of the General Secretariat. Lesvos Civil Protection, the Disaster Management Department of the Hellenic Rescue Team of Lesvos, was prepared for any involvement in the fires in the area of Vatoussa , Antissa, as well as for the fires in the wider area of Moria.
The Branch Operations Management was in the offices of the team and was in constant contact with the person in charge of civil protection of the Region and the Fire Service of Mytilene, until midnight of the same day, where the fire in the area of Vatousa was brought under control, and the HRT branch was instructed to go and assist in the events of Moria.
In total 12 certified volunteer rescuers were involved and assisted with appropriate equipment in firefighting, fire protection and First Aid operations in the wider area of Moria Migrant Camp , but also in the area of Kara – Tepe and the electricity generating plant of Public Electricity Business.
Our members operate under the guidance of the Directorate of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection for the Lesvos Region and in collaboration with the Fire Brigade and the Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Lesvos, as well as with other volunteer groups of the Civil Protection of Lesvos, such as the Reserve Paratroopers Club of Lesvos.
