PRESS RELEASE “Convoy of Love” for destitute families in Lesvos

The Lesvos Branch of the Hellenic Rescue Team organizes the “Convoy of Love” as every Christmas for the 18th consecutive year, for Lesvos families and their children who are in need of support.

So this year too, let us become a warm embrace and fill the red sack of Santa Claus that will enter the chimney of every home.

To achieve this, and because of the difficult economic circumstances we all face, we need the help of all our fellow citizens.

Each one of us can provide any of the essentials listed below and bring them to our team’s offices or contact the phones shown below.

Once the items are collected, we will then pack them and send them to the families who really need them; by double checking names of families on lists of the relevant government agencies and other services of our island.

The essentials that will make up each “parcel”, from all of us with a loving smile and a big hug, for each family according to the number of members comprise:

Essentials for collection

•             Long life milk, homogenized, pasteurized, concentrated, evaporated, or infant formula

•             Cream-Baby foods

•             Oil

•             Pasta

•             Sugar

•             Rice

•             Canned foods

•             Salt

•             Tomato sauces

•             Legumes

•             Flour

•             Breakfast items (cocoa, biscuits, croissants, cereals, toasts, honey, jam, chocolate, juices)

•             Baby Care Products (Milk Bottles, Diapers, Wipes, Shampoos, Bubble Baths)

•             New or toys in very good condition eg puzzles, dolls, stuffed toys etc

We will try to give these families and young children a few moments of a fairy tale, a little of the atmosphere we see in children’s illustrated Christmas stories. These snowy landscapes with the wooden houses with the smoking chimneys and through the half open curtains of the blurred windows you can just see the Christmas decorated trees and the people seated on the woolen rugs around the fireplace with a mug of hot chocolate.
