JUNE 2 2019, LESVOS: The Hellenic Rescue Team lifeboat was launched on Saturday to assist a yacht with an engine problem off Mytilini.

The yacht had four people on board.

The team responded to a coastguard request, and successfully towed the boat into Mytilini marina.

MAY 23 2019, LESVOS: The Hellenic Rescue Team responded to an early morning coastguard call for assistance with a missing person search.

One boat was launched with a crew of three volunteers. The search continued into the morning.

“We were tasked to find a missing person, suspected to be a migrant. We returned to refuel, and continue to search,” said Vassilis Asmanis, 36.

No more details are known at this stage.

MAY 12 2019, LESVOS: Hellenic Rescue Team volunteers provided first aid support to a group of pilgrims walking from various parts of Lesvos to Mantamados.

It’s the fourth year in a row that the HRT has helped out. The team provided 10 certified rescuers and equipment.

The pilgrims were on the island for the annual celebration of the monastery of the Taxiarches, on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May 2019.

MAY 8 2019, LESVOS: Four certified first aid crew from the Lesvos HRT Branch, and a certified trainer, were invited, upon request, to train students from the High School of Plomari.

The visit was approved by the Education Ministry to educate, inform and improve awareness of basic first aid.

MAY 7 2019, LESVOS: The Lesvos Branch of the Hellenic Rescue Team was called to assist a sailing ship in the area of Agras, at the entrance of Kallonis Bay.

The Central Port Authority of Lesvos called the HRT to respond.

The ship’s cabin crew were taken to shore and to a safe place by staff from Hellenic Coast Guard.

HRT volunteers helped pump inflowing water out of the yacht’s interior, and to extract fuel.

APRIL 7 2019, LESVOS: Hellenic Rescue Team volunteers attended the Let’s Do It Greece campaign in Molivos, north of Mytilini.

The Let’s Do it Greece 2019 campaign is a cooperation of volunteer-citizens, volunteer organizations and clubs. 

“As HRT, we would like to thank for the invitation, and it was our honour that we offered in this effort and we also made a link to save the environment,” said Antigone Piperaki.
